Washington University School of Law seeks students whose academic abilities meet the rigorous demands of our graduate programs. Admissions criteria include strong prior educational and professional credentials, a clear sense of why the candidate is pursuing an MLS, and how legal studies would contribute to the candidate professionally and personally. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year, and you will receive your admissions decision shortly after you submit your application. You are encouraged to submit your completed application as soon as possible.

Dates and Deadlines
@WashULaw offers four start dates throughout the year in winter, spring, summer and fall. Below are upcoming start dates and application deadlines:

Application Requirements
A completed application must include the following:
- Online application
- Application fee or waiver
- Statement of Purpose
- Official transcripts from all educational institutions attended. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required.
- Interview
Please note that the LSAT or GRE exam is not a requirement for admission.
Online Application
The online application can be accessed here. Candidates must complete the entire application in order to be considered for admission to the program.
Application Fee
The application fee for the program is $70, and it is nonrefundable. Candidates who qualify for an application fee waiver must send a formal request to their Admissions Counselor along with supporting documentation before submitting the application. A refund cannot be issued for an application fee already paid.
Statement of Purpose
This essay should answer the question: Why do you want to pursue your Master of Legal Studies degree from @WashULaw? The essay should be 400-500 words.
Official Transcripts
Candidates must submit official transcripts from every institution attended, regardless of whether a degree was earned, including community college or study abroad programs. Transcript requests can take time to process, so we recommend submitting requests to these institutions as soon as possible. All official transcripts should be sent to:

Interview
An interview is required for admission into the MLS program and will be scheduled by the candidate’s Admissions Counselor. Interviews will be conducted via videoconference using a basic webcam.
MLS Class Profile
Students in the online program will join a diverse community of experienced public service professionals. As they learn from their classmates’ unique perspectives, they will develop new solutions to the public service challenges that face their own communities.
Class Size
On average, our classes have a 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio, which results in a learning environment in which students closely collaborate with their peers and faculty.
Flexibility
Many online students balance earning their master’s degrees with personal obligations outside the classroom such as a full-time job, family, and volunteer work.
